The former Arsenal centre half Kolo Toure seems to be pretty fired up for the weekend’s clash against his former club as Liverpool visit the Emirates stadium on Saturday. The Ivorian defender has claimed he will show his former employers that letting him go was a mistake.

The Liverpool star had a relatively successful spell in North London, having won a league title and two FA Cups during his seven years with the club. Toure is famously remembered as being an integral part of Arsenal’s legendary ‘Invincibles’ team which went on to win the league title unbeaten, before leaving for Manchester City in 2009. Fast forward to 2013, the now 32-year-old defender seems to have his sights set on making his former employers regret letting him go.

However, Toure also went on to add that it won’t just be about showing his worth when his Liverpool side clash with the Gunners in the Premiership. Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, he said: “It’s always special to go back there but at the same time I want to show on Saturday that Arsenal made a mistake by letting me go. I’m going there to fight. I want to show them what I can do and help my team – Liverpool – to win.”

Well, seems to me like someone’s a little bitter about the way he left. In all honesty, I think the club made the right decision in letting him go. With his dipping performance levels and the emergence of Thomas Vermaelen as Arsenal’s new rock at the back, the club had to make a call, and if you ask me, the club made the right one!

It will surely be a very heated and to a certain extent, emotional affair when Toure returns to the Emirates this Saturday. Like most Gooners, I have always loved the man, and I still do! But I hope the only point that is proven come Saturday is that Arsenal are indeed legitimate title contenders!

  1. Hang on. I thought Kolo engineered his move away from us (llike Cliche, etc) for the big money available at Citeh? Might be wrong about this bit – I always thought it was part of Citeh’s bigger plan to land Yaya. I have absolutely no sympathy for him he went for the big easy money and it ruined his career. Hopefully it’s a story that will repeat itself with some of the others who betrayed the fans, Arsene and our beloved club.

Need a big win this weekend. C’mon Arsenal!
