Van Persie within reaching distance of Shearer’s record

Arsenal’s Dutch striker Robin Van Persie is managed to score again today against Wigan Athletic taking his grand total of the year to 32 goals.

The Dutchman scored after an excellent action by fellow forward Theo Walcott who managed to break one on one with the goalkeeper and then saw Robin with an excellent ball into space and Premiership’s top scorer only had to push the ball into the net.

Thierry Henry also got within touching distance of the record in 2004 with a total of 34 goals, but fell short of becoming the most prolific striker in Premiership’s history.

Van Persie would now need an extra 5 goals in the 5 remaining matches of the year and given that Arsenal will meet a couple of weaker teams he is likely to break yet another record.

Do you think Robin will be able to score the 5 goals he now needs before the end of the year?
