Vertonghen – Tottenham is not the only interested Premier League club

The Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen has made it clear that he is moving from Holland to the Premier League this summer and has not been reluctant to make it clear that Arsenal is his preferred destination, although it is uncertain that Wenger is willing to buy yet another defender.

Recently it has seemed that Tottenham are the new favourites to sign the Belgian international, and although Vertonghen is happy to admit that he is talks with Harry Redknapp, he is at pains to announce that White Hart Lane is not his only possible destination.

“I have a choice. There’s something happening with Tottenham, but there are other clubs interested,” he said. “For me, it is important to get regular playing time. I also need a stable club.”

“In England, there is a growing realisation that you can go far with good football. Arsenal started it and now you also see clubs like Newcastle United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur playing good football.”

So is he likely to get “regular playing time” at Manchester City or Arsenal, with so many other options at these clubs, but which of these “stable clubs” is he likely to choose? Perhaps he is waiting to see who exactly will be playing in the Champions League next season?

  1. Of course he will get game-time at Arsenal!! He can play at CB, LB and CDM!! I have a feeling he will spend most of his time at left-back, although he would be a fantastic holding midfielder whenever song or arteta need a break.
