When Arsenal signed Danny Welbeck on transfer deadline day, the news did not generate much excitement among the Arsenal fans, although we were glad that Arsene Wenger had signed someone. But it was more about relief that the Gunners had cover for the injured Olivier Giroud than belief that Welbeck would be able to fire the goals we needed.

Ever since then, however, we have warmed to Welbeck and started to think that he really could thrive as a centre forward under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger. There have been a few hiccups along the way so far, like the three missed chances against Borussia Dortmund, but in his second Champions League game for Arsenal last night, the 23-year old banished most of the remaining doubts with his stunning hat-trick.

So is that it, Arsenal fans? Do we now believe that Welbeck will get the Gunners enough goals for us to seriously challenge for the major trophies? I think so, because it was the manner he took his goals more than just recording his first professional hat-trick. Every goal was well taken but the way his finishing got cooler through the match says to me that all he needs is confidence to become a top marksman.

And his all-round play and the creativity of his Arsenal team mates will get him plenty of chances to practice the fine art of goal scoring. Welbeck still has a long way to go and a lot of work to do but he seems more than happy to do it and that is half the problem solved.

  1. One swallow don’t make a summer we have seen Adebayor score 30 in a season and Van persir 25+ yet Arsenal as a team still settled for 4th.Credit to Welbeck for his hat trick nevertheless but consistency in front of goal is what is needed. One hat trick only masked the inadequacies of our wafer thin back line and our holding midfielder positions A few seasonscago we had Newcastle 4-0 and they came back within the last 15 minutes to claim a point.Arsenal must try not to let in as much goals as they score and so far for the season in our title challenge for the most part we had yo come from behind to save face and earn a point.Leicester City a newly promoted side did not care about our so called too four status their intention on the pitch is to be Giant killers we need a little of what these lesser clubs have in terms of winning spirit and drive

  2. With welbeck i believe we will win the epl again, maybe not this season, but it wont be far off.we kinda have a lot of players that seem they aint going any where for a long time…Ozil, former Madrid player, sanchez, former barcelona player,a british core…metersacker, koscielny,we are not far behind.wen we defeat Chelsea this weekend, cos we will,we will march on to glory come may……some of our best players will join our team in january….we will finish better than we did last season.
