Wenger Admits Title Fight Is Over. Could Top Transfers Save Him?

Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger has stated that the club’s clearly out of the title fight for now after City managed to put 12 points behind them and the Gunners with Sunday’s win. The loss against City stopped Arsenal’s run of 8 games with no loss, but despite the extraordinary run things look grim now for the Gunners.

“At the moment we are too far behind.

“I think it was a game that could have gone both ways. It was very intense with both teams going for it and I feel as well that we were a bit unlucky.

“Their goalkeeper had a good game and we were a bit unlucky with the fact that we had to reshuffle completely at the back in a position where we are already short – we paid too much for that.

“Overall I did feel at half-time that we would win the game if we stayed stable at the back.

“We lacked a bit of accuracy with our final ball in the final third as well because we had a few opportunities where we didn’t pass the ball well.

“But overall we had a very positive performance, great spirit, quality, but we lacked a little bit of what is vital in the big games.”

The only question which rises is whether a positive January transfer season for Arsenal could wash away the fans’ disappointments and perhaps keep the Gunners in the fight for long enough for City to make another mistake. Do you think they still stand a chance?

  1. true, this title isn’t heading to Emirates this season. But let’s continue fighting to the very end & use our resources in other competitions esp. the FA Cup… ~ Forward (Forever)

  2. Any manager would not start with Gervinho given the performance that Oxlade had against Man City in the Cup. Gervinho makes too many bad decisions and loses the ball upfront putting everyone under pressure when we counter attack and have to scramble back to defense.

Ramsay had a shocker as well. I wonder if Wenger actually reads the game cos his subs were strange to say the least.
