For all the Arsenal fans who may have been getting excited after recent Arsenal transfer rumours had us strongly linked to the PSG and Uruguay international star Edinson Cavani, our manager has some bad news.

Even though the news coming from the French media suggests that Cavani is ready to end his spell in Paris with the French champions, Arsene Wenger has explained that he will not be coming to Arsenal this summer.

The Frenchman did not use Cavani’s name specifically but his words this week on the Arsenal transfer policy, reported by the Daily Star make it clear that Cavani is not on his list of summer transfer targets.

The Frenchman said, “We signed players like Sanchez and Ozil, 25 and 26, and that is a good age to perform now.

“We have as well players like Bellerin and Chambers who are 20. So we have both. The financial potential should allow you to combine both.

“Look, what’s important is that we give a chance to the young players. We want to maintain that.

“For years you could say to me: “you have no choice you have to play them” – but we want to maintain that. It’s part of the DNA of the club to give a chance to young players.

“When all your main players get close to 30, you can’t buy a 30 year old player. You have to buy a player who is 22 or 23, because if you buy another player of 30 they all [finish their careers] together.”

Cavani is 29-years old at his next birthday and that makes him the same age as Olivier Giroud, so applying Wenger’s policy we would have to sell Giroud to sign Cavani and that is not going to happen. The fact that PSG will want at least £50 million for the striker does not help either and there is no guarantee that he would be any better or even as good as our in form French forward.
