Wenger set for a German summer – Another done deal lined up?

6

There are an amazing amount of Arsenal transfer rumours floating around considering that there is still three months left until the end of the season, and it seems clear that Wenger is concentrating on bringing players over here from the Bundesliga.

Perhaps it was Germany’s performances in the World Cup that persuaded Wenger to move his centre of scouting operations to the Motherland, but whatever the reason it seems to be a shift in his thinking away from the weaker Ligue 1 and over to the (much) stronger German League.

First of all Arsenal brought in Thomas Eisfeld in January, and everyone seems to be totally convinced that Lukas Podolski will be arriving as well this summer. The next one being touted as a done deal is the transfer of the half English youngster Lewis Holtby.

The Schalke midfielder is the son of an English squaddie and a German mother and after captaining the Germany U21 side he has now earned a promotion to the senior national side and is hotly tipped as star of the future.

Arsenal Insider (Carl Eldridge) revealed a couple of months ago that Holtby was already lined up to join Arsenal this summer, and now it has been confirmed by the respected Sports journalist Javier Perez. Holtby is a highly experienced player considering he is only 21 with over 100 appearances in Germany, and with only a year left on his contract he will be much cheaper than the much-lauded pair of Mario Gotze or Eden Hazard.

The only problem I can see is that he has Everton DNA!

  1. he is a poor mans goetze really… but very technically gifted. this is the kinda transfer arsenal are known for. they have the fans thinkin goetze or hazard and then we sign this guy and nobody seen it coming. but if we do sign him ill still be happy cause he looks really good.
