Wenger – The Bolton draw and the Blackburn massacre were similar games

Arsene Wenger has made a habit of “stating the bleeding obvious” in most of his press conferences ahead of Arsenal games, and with Sunderland coming up tomorrow he has taken the opportunity to point out that the only difference between the 0-0 draw against Bolton and the 7-1 win over Blackburn was simply the amount of times Arsenal took their goalscoring chances!

It seems that the seven goals came from 19 shots on goal by Arsenal, but they also had 16 chances against Bolton without any finished product. This led to Wenger declaring: “It is linked with confidence. As long as you have not scored the first goal you want to score it desperately and therefore you are a little bit less relaxed and it puts more pressure on the shot taker. You are less efficient,”

“Overall the most important thing is to create goalscoring opportunities, and at Bolton we did that quite well.

“So if you can continue to do that, one day you will score seven, one day you will score none but most of the time you will score two or three.”

So there you go; the secret to success at football is revealed. Put the ball in the back of the net! I’ll be happy if Arsenal just score “two or three” tomorrow, as long as they win!

It is time for the Gunners to become consistently efficient.
