As Arsenal fans, we have had to get used to seeing some of our best players leave the club in recent years, for one reason or another. Some, like Samir Nasri and Robin van Persie, have turned instantly from hero to villain because of their reasons for leaving and the way they did it. Others, like Thierry Henry, will always be remembered as club legends.

The Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas used to fall into the second category, even though he forced his way out and left Arsenal with a huge hole in the team. We understood, I think, because he was going back to his boyhood club, Barcelona, who just happened to be on top of the world at the time.

That and the way Cesc spoke about Arsenal being in his heart kept the relationship between Gooners and the Spaniard strong, but this summer has seen that relationship tarnished to the point where Fabregas could soon find himself in the group of former Gunners that gets serious abuse when they play at the Emirates.

Choosing Chelsea was bad enough, but now the words of Jose Mourinho claiming that Fabregas never really wanted to return to Arsenal have driven another wedge between player and fans. Cesc used to say things like, he would never play for another Premier League club, but we know things change in football and as long as we thought that Arsene Wenger had left him little choice after deciding not to exercise his buy back option, there was still not much animosity towards our former captain.

But Wenger’s response to what Mourinho said, as reported by Arsenal.com, suggest that the Frenchman feels a little betrayed.

He said, “I think people came out and said he wanted to go to Chelsea. I don’t know who tells the truth here or not. He landed where he wanted to go.”

It seems like there is more to this story than meets the eye, so do you think the Arsenal fans will turn on our former favourite?

  1. As An Arsenal fan i feel so bad, when the legend decided to be in Blues, last capless winning coach who spited ugly and useless statement against my club, and thinking that it will work for him having best players With all kinds of drama. Very sad.

  2. I’m not sure why people are so confused about what Wenger said…he is merely saying that Fabregas wanted a move to London hence “He landed where he wanted to go”

  3. YES! OF course and he should expect nothing less! Was captain of Arsenal now signed to one of our rivals.. what does he expect! He is on the s*** list with Van Persie!

  4. What’s done is done. There’s no point carrying on. We’re moving forward as a club & what’s more important is focusing on supporting our boys especially against Chelsea who we have not had much success over since 2005. Beating Chelsea would be enough redemption for me & Fabregas has been dead to me since he left. Of course he’s going to get booed but we shouldn’t let that get in the way of supporting this wonderful team we have.

  5. I can only but pity the choice of fabregas going not just a rival club, but one that has a mouth making manager as their coach. He should expect the worst
