Arsenal fans were crying out for Arsene Wenger to sign the Uruguay international striker Edinson Cavani in the summer of 2013. That was a year after the Frenchman had brought in Oliver Giroud and Lukas Podolski after the departure of Robin van Persie and it is safe to say that we were not too impressed.

But Cavani went for around 65 million euros to PSG from his Italian club Napoli and they spent some of that money, too much really, in beating us to another striker in Gonzalo Higuain. Neither have exactly lit up their new clubs, but the Arsenal fans could finally be set to see what all the fuss over Cavani was about.

A Metro report claims that he is almost certainly going to leave the French champions in the summer after his frustration with Laurent Blanc for continually playing him out of position boiled over when he was subbed off in PSG’s game at the weekend.

There will probably be a number of big clubs around Europe interested in taking the powerful centre forward, especially as his transfer fee should now be as low as £40 million. But with Arsenal now having Alexis Sanchez, Welbeck, Walcott and the new and improved Giroud on our books, do we really need him anymore?

  1. Yes, of course we need a new top quality striker to complement the attacking prowess of the Gunners in next season campaign. It will be better if the boss signed a top quality striker that have scored some 30 goals for 2 seasons in any of the Europe top Leagues, and must have some Champions League or Europa League experience. Or at least has the potential to perform remarkably beyond the Knock out Stages of the CL. I say this against the background of what happened to us at Stade Louis II in France, as the boss had no quality striker substitute on the bench to make a substitution when the Gunners game was demanding a top quality striker game qualifier winner substitution be made. Did I rue Podolski going out on loan? As we were still in the CL, perhaps it would have been better he is kept, if for the CL games in which he has been performing well enough. Invariable, we got knocked out of the CL by Monaco FC when we shouldn’t have been. I don’t know which top quality striker the boss will sign in the summer, as a host names of them are on the cards for the boss to make his pick.
