According to the media, the Feyenoord manager Ronald Koeman is once again looking to lure the talented Arsenal winger Ryo Miyaichi to the De Kuip stadium.

After joining Arsenal back in 2011, the Japanese youngster has failed to make a senior league appearance for the London club and had been loaned out to Feyenoord, Bolton and Wigan, his spell in The Netherlands being the most successful.

The 20-year-old had earned great plaudits about his pace and technical ability during his spell with Feyenoord but has seemed to struggle to cope up with the physicality of English football during his time at Bolton and Wigan.

What is most interesting about this report, however, is that some sections of the English media claim that Koeman is actually looking to take the young winger to Holland on a permanent basis.

Speaking to NuSport, Koeman said: “It’s right we are also working on Ryo Miyaichi, but at the moment it is not clear what the situation is. After that, we can make a step. it’s not that far yet”.

Okay, maybe the English media are reading a little too much into this by claiming it’s a permanent move that the Dutchman is looking at, however the topic of whether Miyaichi has an immediate Arsenal future is a very debatable one.

The Japanese prodigy was nicknamed ‘Ryodinho’ (after Ronaldinho) by the Feyenoord faithful due to his immense technical ability and flair, but has shown only glimpses of that while playing in England.

With Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lukas Podolski all vying for a place on the wings, and the club looking to bring in another wideman, it is almost certain that Ryo will not be seeing any first-team action this season either.

In my opinion, with a little work on the physical aspect of the game, Ryo has the potential to be a world-class winger. It is very unlikely that Wenger would let him go any time soon, but let’s hope Arsenal fans can get a glimpse of ‘Ryodinho’ some time in the future.
