Well then Arsenal fans, it looks like the Gunners will be going up against our long term Premier League rivals Manchester United at least three times this season; with the first game after the international break seeing Louis van Gaal bring his Red Devils to the Emirates. Arsenal travel to Old Trafford for the penultimate league game of the season, but before that, the two clubs are set to go head to head for the transfer of Ron Vlaar.

There has been a lot of speculation and about the 29-year old Holland international, as his current contract with Aston Villa runs out at the end of the season, so with no sign of Vlaar signing another, the midlands club may be forced to sell their captain in January in order to get anything for him.

And his agent Arnold Oosterveer has confirmed that the centre back is ready to move on to bigger and better things. He even mentions us and United specifically, as a report in The Mirror reveals.

The agent said, “It is obvious that for Ron, now is the moment to make a nice big move in his career. Ron is very ambitious.

“The situation is ideal for Ron right now. You can imagine that we are not in a hurry. I don’t want to react to the rumour that he will move to either Arsenal or Man United, but Ron is very ambitious.”

You might think that United have an advantage in that Van Gaal was his national team manager for a couple of years, but that does not necessarily follow. If it is all about ambition for Vlaar, maybe the two clubs’ relative positions in the EPL table in January will be more significant. So who will win the race for Vlaar?
