Arsenal agree terms with their next signing!

Transfer rumours are always difficult in deciding which ones you should believe and which ones are pure speculation. Usually there’s the few reliable sources to confirm certain deals and whilst Arsenal fans have been waiting for updates on potential incomers, it seems like we may finally have some luck on the transfer front!

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal have in practice been allowed to speak to Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi, but the two teams haven’t officially agreed on a fee as of yet. It is believed that Mustafi has been allowed to talk to Arsenal about contractual terms before a fee has been agreed, because Valencia have become resigned to losing their star defender this summer. Sky Sports have announced that Arsenal have managed to agree contractual terms with the player and when Arsene Wenger was asked about the possibility of signing Mustafi in today’s press conference, Le Prof simply said “I cannot tell you”, whilst pulling the oh so familiar grin that he does when linked players are mentioned.

Wenger likes to operate behind close doors, as it apparently makes the deal smoother for both parties, although with the amount of time it seems to take Arsenal, thank goodness he doesn’t do the deals publicly. The ‘grin’ is a good indication that there may have been substantial progress in the developments of the transfer and it backs up Sky Sports’ claims about the latest news. Of course it is nothing official however, so don’t get too excited just yet, as Arsenal still need to reportedly agree a fee with Valencia before the German international can make his way to North London.

Valencia have reportedly made Arsenal aware of the player’s release clause, believed to be in the excess of £40 million, however it is rumoured that the Spanish side would accept a bid in the region of £30 million due to financial constraints. Arsenal have supposedly opened the bidding at £25 million, which of course will be rejected if Valencia hold out for their valuation.

Either way if this deal goes through even today, Mustafi will not be allowed to play for Arsenal tomorrow against Liverpool, due to Premier League registration restrictions. This means Wenger will still have to pick two out of Chambers, Holding and Bielik to start in the central of defence on Sunday, with the English duo favourites to start the match.
