Arsenal and Liverpool fighting over prolific Spartak Moscow striker

The Russian League is currently in recess so the transfer window is now in earnest and the rumours are flying in thick and fast. The latest and most interesting is the news that both Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on signing the prolific Spartak Moscow striker Wellinton.

The 25 year-old Brazilian hitman has been at Spartak for five years and has been the Russian Premier League top scorer for two of those years, but he is now expected to move on to bigger and better things, with Arsenal expected to be the most likely destination as cover for Robin Van Persie.

Despite scoring 57 goals in just 93 games for Spartak, Talksport report that Wellinton could be available for just £7m in January, which is a figure that could be very attractive to Arsene Wenger, although that price may rise due to further interest from both Fiorentina and Borussia Dortmund, as well as Liverpool.

Wellinton also holds the record for the fastest hat-trick in Russia when he scored three in just six minutes against Tomsk in August 2010, just a week after scoring all three goals in a 3-2 win over Locomotiv Moscow.

If Wenger can snap up this talented Brazilian at such a good price it could not only help Arsenal score more goals but could also be an excellent investment if he adapts well to the Premier League.
