Arsenal boss explains Martial transfer failure – Not Good!!

1

The Arsenal strikers may finally have found their shooting boots at the weekend, with Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud both adding to the hat-trick from Alexis Sanchez, but there are still a lot of Arsenal fans who feel that Arsene Wenger was wrong to not sign a striker in the summer transfer window.

It does not help that we are now being told that the Frenchman and the Arsenal scouting team have been following the form and career of Anthony Martial for some time. Many people were left stunned by the price paid by Man United to sign the young French forward but he has already gone some way to proving his worth, scoring four goals in his first four games.

So Wenger felt the need to explain his decision not to follow up on his interest and sign him for Arsenal. According to a Daily Star report, the reason was that the Arsenal boss did not see him as a striker but more of a winger. He also suggested that these early goals are probably not going to keep coming.

I hope he is right of course, but considering that Thierry Henry, Robin van Persie and now Walcott all started as wide players and came more central, with great effect, it seems odd that Wenger did not see this as possible with Martial. What is that all about?
