Arsenal expecting Xhaka to arrive in £33.8million deal

After last summers transfer window debacle, when Arsenal fans saw Arsene Wenger quickly sign Petr Cech, and then had a tortuous summer wating in vain for Karim Benzema (or any other accompished striker) to join the club. That ended in heartbreak as we all know, and most Gooners will blame Wenger’s failure to buy an established hitman as the reason we missed out on the title.

But this summer must surely be different, with even Wenger himself admitting that he needed to buy some competition for Olivier Giroud (Duh! We have been telling him that for years and he has only just noticed?) It looks like Le Prof has lined up his first arrival already as the Daily Mirror reported this morning:

Borussia Moenchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka is expected to arrive in a £33.8million deal, while Wenger is also after a striker with Danny Welbeck out for nine months.

Xhaka will be a welcome start to the summer for Arsenal fans, and the report also states that Wenger is targeting N’Golo Kante as well as another striker, with Wenger announcing that he has the full backing from Stan Kroenke to buy whoever he likes…within reason of course. Wenger said: “Stan Kroenke is completely behind myself and the board investing as much money as we want.

“It has to be in respect of a balanced budget, we have resources but the problem is finding players. Everybody has money in England and they’re all after good players.”

Yes Arsene, they all are I’m sure, but honestly Arsenal have the great advantage of being able to guarantee Champions League football next season. So stop talking Wenger and start buying!
