Depending on which paper you read, Arsenal are going to hand Arsene Wenger a substantial transfer war chest between £70 million and over £100 million this summer. Assuming he signs a new deal and assuming he spends the money, Arsenal fans are in for a rare treat this summer.

The Frenchman was critical of Tottenham’s scatter gun approach to the transfer market last year, and he has often spoken about the quality already in the Arsenal squad, so it would be fair to expect a few big name signings. According to the Daily Star, the first of those could be Angel Di Maria, the Real Madrid and Argentina winger that we were linked with last summer.

Di Maria wanted to stay and prove himself to the new Madrid boss and he has had a good season. But Madrid have fallen short in La Liga once again and are set to make changes, with Di Maria apparently one of the players up for sale, with a price tag of around £30 million.

The Gunners are keen, but our main challengers for the 26-year old’s signature are big spending Man City. Normally you would say that is that, but they mat be seriously restricted in their spending this summer, depending on how seriously they take the FFP rules after UEFA hit them hard with sanctions.

Can Arsenal make Angel a heavenly start to the transfer window?
