Arsenal get Green Light on defensive midfield transfer target

Arsenal were linked with a number of possible players that could come in and strengthen the central midfield area, which many fans and football pundits feel is the club’s Achilles heel. And one of the players that the Gunners were most strongly linked with is now looking like a very realistic transfer target in the January transfer window, according to a Daily Star report.

There were reports that Arsene Wenger had made a bid to sign William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon this summer, but the Portuguese club apparently refused to move on the release clause in the talented 22-year old’s contract and that was too much for Arsenal.

But the new report claims that Sporting are now realising that their player is not about to sign a new deal and is keen to move on, meaning that as the end of his contract gets closer, the smaller the amount of transfer fee they are likely to get.

Carvalho said, “We all have ambitions and I hope one day to play in the best leagues in the world, the English or Spanish.

“It was not this year, but if I continue to do my job as I have done so, it will certainly come sooner or later.”

So could the Gunners be preparing a January bid to sign Carvalho and add some much needed pace, power and energy to the centre of the team?
