Arsenal given Go Ahead for Serie A starlet’s summer transfer

I wonder if the subject came up when Arsenal were talking to the Serie A club Internazionale in January about the loan move of our Germany international Lukas Podolski. Even if not, the deal that saw the World Cup winning striker move to Italy, no matter how badly it has gone for Podolski in Milan, should give us a good chance of beating our Premier League rivals to the summer transfer of their starlet Mateo Kovacic.

In fact, a Metro report claims that the talented 20-year old’s current club have already given Arsenal the go ahead to sign him in the summer, as long as we meet their valuation of course, which is just over £17 million.

Inter have already rejected a lower offer from Everton apparently and he has been scouted by clubs as big as Real Madrid. Despite his youth, Kovacic has been with Inter for three seasons and played over 70 games for Dinamo Zagreb before that.

But this season has really seen his form blossom and led to him being compared to former Gunner Cesc Fabregas, with eight goals making him his club’s second top scorer. He sounds promising but is another creative midfielder really what Arsenal need?
