One of the many central defenders linked with a possible January transfer move to Arsenal is the West Ham star Winston Reid. Not only is the captain of the New Zealand national team confirming his Premier League class with a great season for the Hammers so far, he is reported to be available on the cheap as his current contract is due to run out at the end of the season.

So with other Arsenal transfer rumours in the media suggesting that Arsene Wenger is only going to have a January transfer kitty of around £20 million to spend, and with the need for a strong central midfielder also, Reid was believed to be one of the more realistic targets of all those mentioned in the last few months and weeks.

But the West Ham co-owner David Gold has dealt the Gunners a hammer blow in our hopes of signing the 26-year old in January, according to Talksport. Gold has declared that the club are not going to sell their central defender and they are confident that Reid will sign a contract extension with them.

So who does that leave for Wenger to sign for Arsenal in January?
