Of course it is absolutely vital for Arsenal to get a home win over the visitors Stoke City today. We have a great chance to go above our north London rivals Tottenham in the Premier League table and level on points with fourth placed Southampton.

And with our next EPL game being away to the current champions Manchester City, it is even more important for the Gunners to make the most of today’s very winnable game at the Emirates. But I do not want us to be just falling over the line at the final whistle.

Arsenal need a boost of confidence just as much as we need the points. Arsene Wenger and the players need to set down a marker for the rest of the season and make sure that other teams are afraid of us again. Too often this season we have let teams off the hook, failing to ram home our superiority and ending up defending for our lives in the final minutes.

Even against a poor Hull City side in the FA cup, it was 82 minutes before Alexis finally put the game to bed. So another goal fest is well overdue and it would have the added bonus of banishing the memories of our disaster at the Britannia stadium last month.

And we certainly have the attacking players to do it, so I expect to see the Gunners go for the jugular against Stoke today and set the tone for the season to come.
