Arsenal rumour roundup – Adil Rami, Hazard, Vertonghen, Eriksen and Yilmaz

17

The Arsenal rumour mill seems to be building up to the upcoming transfer window, and as Sol Campbell has openly announced that Arsene Wenger needs to bring in top players to convince Robin Van Persie to stay at the Emirates.

The ongoing Eden Hazard affair continues and it has been revealed that the Man United boss Alex Ferguson has taken a personal interest in the young Belgian. The likelihood of Arsenal getting Hazard seems to be receding into the distance.

Another interesting Arsenal rumour is that Wenger is chasing the Valencia defender Adil Rami. The 26 year-old is certainly class, but I personally think that Jan Vertonghen is the most likely defender to come to the Gunners.

And that is what Caughtoffside say as well. They reckon that Wenger will be given a load of dosh this summer and will be aiming for Vertonghen and his young team-mate Christian Eriksen. That sounds plausible as Eriksen is a talented (and cheaper!) alternative to Hazard.

Lastly, Arsenal has been variously linked with the prolific Trabzonspor forward Burak Yilmaz, but the Metro now says that Fulham’s Martin Jol is in the driving seat to get Yilmaz for just £6 million. No matter your opinion of the Turkish SuperLiga, that price for a hitman with 32 goals in 30 games this season must surely be worth a second look?

How many of today’s Arsenal rumours would you like to be true?

  1. I prefer Jan vertonghen to adil rami due to his flexibility in many positions, but either will do! Eriksen is a gud one too but i doubt if wenger will bring him to the emirates,we dont need Yilmaz coz we have Podolski if in any case the deal had gone through

  2. Arsenal`s first choice defensive line still needs to be clarified if we are to seriously challenge for silver next season.Should Mertesacker leave, as has been suggested, it will leave us with only two reliable centre backs Vermaelen and Koscieny, we need four. The left back situation is clearly a problem. Gibbs is only a `maybe` and Santos is a `no-no`at this level. Vertonghen is a must to give us cover and flexibilty but we still need a left back. Wenger will be looking for a mid field play maker and possibly another striker in addition to Podolski.
All up that`s five and that`s a big ask.

  3. arsenal need five to six players thiz summer to stay in rvp n’t only him all gunners to challenge atrophy next season’hazard, jan vertonghen,m’villa France midfielder ama n’t sure his name and Eriksan+yilmaz, dempsey usa striker plz wenger make it happen thiz summer to build arsenal as they r before unbeaten 2003-2004!!!

  4. Wouldn’t want to see Hazard at Arsenal..
He just another Samir Nasri waiting to happen..
I think we’d be very strong with Podolsky and Vertongen, and making Benayoun stay, getting back Ryo and recovery of Wishere..

  5. I’m not sure we need vertonghen as we have vermelean and kocialny who both play or can play on the side of defence. Rami is a top Player we should of signed him from Lille ages ago, built for the prem. he would be a perfect addition to the team. I think we should sign baines and sell santos because he simply isn’t good enough. I would like to see kagawa, maher, m’villa, rami, baines, soldado or falcoa as I’m feeling optimistic.

  6. Ar u can see there was a time wen we didn’t have any left or right back n that we convinced vermaelin n then song had an extra work to do.xo wenger had to sign defenders

  7. We need a few players that will finish a top Arsenal team and for me it is roughly like this: Vertonghen, M’vila for midfield and hopefully an attacking midfielder like hazard, Podolski for attack and maybe another striker like Yilmaz or Oliver Girouid. We should take campbell back off loan and use him next season and the same for miyachi. Then we would have a STRONG team and will hopefully look like this including subs. Defense Sagna, Koscielny, Vertonghen, Vermaelan, Gibbs, Santos. Midfield Song, Wilshere, Hazard, M’vila, Arteta, Rosicky. Attack Podolski, RVP, Walcott, Gervinho, Campbell, Miyachi, AOC (Chamberlain) and Girouid. Brilliant team with depth, talent and real threat.

  8. Mertesacker will not leave, it would be complete idiocy on his part. Santos is only coming back from injury, and before he was injured, we caught merely slight glimpses of what he’s about, so writing him off at that stage isn’t smart either. So, we have 4 centre-halfs of considerable quality (Koscielny, Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Djourou) plus several younger players like Miquel and Bartley at the ready. Then, we have two full-backs apiece, each of which should be fully equipped to tackle the next season (Jencks and santos are completely new to the team right now, and Gibbs is still not entirely settled, either). We don’t really need another defender, and if Vertonghen joins, it might mean Vermaelen will move to left-back, which is not what everybody wants. Still, one can’t rule that out – Wenger is famous for his ability to play people out of position.
As for Hazard (or Eriksen), the legitimate question is do we need another midfielder? Song, Wilshere, Rosicky, Arteta, Ramsey are all quality players that should be available for next season. Then, there are players like Frimpong, Diaby and Ozyakup, who are likely to contribute to our next league campaign. Then, there is Eisfeld, who’ll go out on loan perhaps, but might return for the 2nd half of the season. Finally, there’s Conor Henderson, who was expected to shine this season, but did his cruciates instead. So, we’re pretty tightly packed; this could mean Wenger’s looking for a player capable of taking up several positions (a box-to-box midfielder of pace, a winger who can act as playmaker) or is not looking for anyone in particular. Eriksen was mightily linked to other clubs; Hazard looks a spoiled brat. Personally, I think it will be some kind of a surprise.
As for Yilmaz, I wouldn’t rely on the Turkish league to provide you with quality. Yes, he is an international, and is enjoying a great season, but Trabzonspor are a strong team in a weak league. I haven’t seen him yet, but, as with Giroud, I’m afraid he might be a one-season wonder. Also, he looks very much a Fulham player, don’t you think?

  9. Note: you know who was Turkish League’s top scorer for last season? A 34-year-old Brazilian named Alex, with 28 goals (and 17 assists). You may remember him from being an international. 10 times (3 goals). The year before, it was Ariza Makukula (Portugal) who spent 5 months at Bolton in 2008/09 (no goals). And before that, it was Milan Baros, whom you may recall from Liverpool’s successful CL campaign in 2004/05. For EPL players, Turkey is a good place to retire to, but can it be a source of EPL players? Unless this Yilmaz has a proper work ethic, he won’t cut it at this level.

  10. Firstly, Wenger need to sell out Bendtner, denilson, squillaci, almunia, fabianski, vela(Though he is good, but not for Epl)… Then we need to replace, bendtner=podolski,
    Denilson= m-villa or belhanda,
Vela= giva a chance to campbell,
Almunia=martinez, Rosicky is in form but not young to carry on long,so we need to give some young players chance like ozukyap, or eisfield… Afobe, miyachi will be waiting for 1st team action too.. As for leftback, Gibbs has the potential, he need more time, we should be patient like wenger did with koscielny… And next season Arsenal will be title contenders.. Forever Arsenal!!

  11. Adil Rami is an absolutely terrible defender, when Koscielny had made his international french debut against USA, if it weren’t for Koscielny france would of lost. He also got destroyed by an aging Didier Drogba in this seasons champions league at Stamford bridge This guy is f***ing terrible, can’t believe he’s being linked with us.

  12. Yilmaz looks like a lazy player, so I’m not sure about him, I really think we should be looking at top players rather than one season wonders ( podolski, yilmaz ) soldado or falcoa are better options with kagawa, m’villa, rami or vertonghen (I would go for rami as we have vermelean) and back up at left back for Gibbs or the other way around but santos has never shown he can defend, so someone like baines or Taylor of Swansea would be good
