Arsenal should not worry about facing Olympiakos in the Europa League

Olympiakos may just be the best draw we could get

The draw for the knockout stages of the Europa league has been made and in all sincerity, Arsenal got a good draw. We are lucky to be paired against the Greek team, Olympiakos. Without trying to be disrespectful towards them, this is a winnable game for Arsenal.

After playing our last game against Standard Liege, attention was shifted towards the draw for the knock out stages; many feared we were going to be pitted against the likes of Inter-Milan, Ajax or even Manchester United. A lot were of the opinion that meeting any of these teams, could spell doom for us. How we got to the stage whereby we now fear teams, is another topic for another day.

Well, the draw were made and luckily for us, we were given Olympiakos for the next round. No matter how you may choose to view this, it is a very good draw and it could be an avenue for us to really start making an impact in Europe. Hope you will agree with me that our form in Europe has not been splendid?

Olympiakos is the in-form team in the Greek national league but in the UEFA Champions league this season, their form has not been that terrific! According to footystats.org, in the Greek super league, Olympiakos has played 14 games this season, won 10 games and drawn 4. They have not lost a game this season. In the UEFA Champions league group stage this season however, they have performed badly; they played 6 games, won 1 and drew 1 (against Tottenham in Greece). With this type of a record in Europe, I don’t think we should be scared of playing and beating them, when the knock-out stages resume.

Arsenal should be aiming to win the Europa league trophy this time around and we should do so with so much ruthlessness next year. Arsenal has no business playing in the Europa next season and we should do everything possible to play in the Champions league next season, and this includes winning this current edition of the Europa league. Come on gooners, let us expect a different Arsenal team next year, especially as we are about to sort our managerial issues, soon. We are Arsenal and we are proud.
