Depending on which side of the fence you sit on when it comes to the performances of the Arsenal and Germany star Mesut Ozil since he came to the Premier League from Real Madrid a year and a half a go, this could be seen as great or terrible news for the Gunners. I can guess what the midfielder´s constant critic Paul Scholes would say.

However, a lot of us have seen a big improvement in the German´s form for Arsenal this season, especially since he used his spell on the sidelines to get in the gym and increase his upper body strength. So Ozil´s statement, reported by Metro, declaring that he is happy at Arsenal and is in way considering leaving this summer, is good news.

Our playmaker also talks about how tough the Premier League is but claims that he has now come to terms with it and is much happier with the influence he is now able to have for his club.

The 26-year old said, “A return to Germany is not an option for me right now. I am really happy at Arsenal and I want this to continue.

“I played in the Bundesliga and at Real Madrid. But the English Premier League is the strongest league in the world. Opponents never give up.

“Even if we’re 3-0 in front with Arsenal, the players never give up and fight until the very last second. You can only succeed here when you’re on top level physically.

“I don’t need to prove them anything. But it is correct that I have to work harder to reach my goals.

“That’s why I’m working as hard as I never worked before in my life. My body is more stable and I feel fresher. You need that in England.”

A few more goals and assists from our number 11 to add to his all-round improvement and the critics like Scholes might even stop bringing up his transfer fee at every opportunity. Is Ozil now proving Arsene Wenger was right to sign him after all?
