The Arsenal and England midfield star Jack Wilshere was due to have a scan today to determine the extent of the ligament damage cause when the young Manchester United defender Paddy McNair went into a late tackle with his studa into Wilshere’s ankle last weekend.

And the news was not good and meant that the 22-year old needed surgery, so without further ado the young Gunner wqent straight under the knife. The good news reported by Arsenal.com is that the surgery was successful. The bad news is that Wilshere will now be out of action for about three months.

That puts Arsene Wenger and his injury depleted Arsenal squad under even more pressure, especially with a crucial and busy christmas period to get through. The Gunners will be without the much improved player for some really big games as well, including Liverpool, Southampton, Man City and Tottenham away. But there is a chance that he could return in time for the two legged Champions League knockout games.

Let us hope that there are no setbacks on his road to recovery and that this run of injury problems does not carry on/
