When it comes to Arsenal and transfer targets it’s often difficult to pick out the true from the false because quite simply Arsenal are linked with probably at least 3 different players every day, which believe me amounts to quite a lot of players by the end of the transfer window.

One name that has stuck around a lot over the last few days is the 28-year old Spaniard Jesus Gamez, who is a defender for Arsenal’s new provider club Malaga in Spain. I am of course joking on Malaga being Arsenal’s provider club but after signing Santi Cazorla and Nacho Monreal from there last season, I suppose any players coming to the Emirates from that part of sunny Spain this time around, would mean they are no different to what we have recently been to Barcelona and Man City.

Anyway back to the topic of Jesus Gamez and the reason for why the right sided defender and Malaga captain has been linked with the Gunners is because he has been supposedly been part of talks between Arsenal and Malaga regarding the transfer of Nicklas Bendtner. Bendtner is wanted by Malaga and although the Danish striker is only worth around £2.5 million in valuation, its understood that Arsenal were willing to offer cash plus Bendtner for Gamez.

Gamez himself then came out yesterday to speak on his future, saying, “In the coming days my agent will speak with Malaga and we’ll both decide what is the best way forward. I will listen to Malaga first, then think about my options.”

It seems to me as if Gamez has a few options waiting for him, so Arsenal may not be alone and I personally am stuck on whether we really need him or not. I think it’s vital we bring in another defender, however he is predominantly a right back and so the only means I can see possible is that Gamez goes to right back and Sagna takes a centre back spot. Overall I just find it difficult to see where he would fit in and I’m not sure if my idea above would actually be effective.

At the moment it’s all rumours and there isn’t any concrete information however with them very keen on Bendtner, I also think this deal would be highly plausible if the Dane would just lower his wage demands.

  1. Have to say I prefer sagna at right back than centre back. Sure he is a good 4th choice but I would rather us have 2 top rbs 2 top lbs and 4 top cbs. At the moment I think we are one short and seeing as 3 of our left back options are currently injured and miquel has now gone on loan I think a left sided cb who can cover lb like sakbo would be.preferable. I would also go for rami so that when vermaelen is fit we can try him in the holding role. However should wenger think that jenkinson could do with a loan the gamez would be a great choice to deputise for sagna.
