Athletic Bilbao’s president Josu Urrutia has admitted that he can’t keep his top star Fernando Llorente at the club against his own will, but has declared that the Arsenal target will only leave if the buyout clause is met by a club.

Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger will probably be looking to put the money the Gunners will get for Robin Van Persie to work fast, and the buyout clause of £28million could be met by Arsenal if they add just a little to the fee they will get from the sale of the Dutch turncoat to Manchester United.

“If the player does not really want to be at this club, [someone] has to pay his buyout clause,” Urrutia told Spanish newspaper El Confidencial.

Arsenal’s team problems were almost rendered obsolete after the Gunners brought in Giroud, Podolski and Cazorla, but Robin Van Persie’s departure now leaves the French manager with a new set of problems to deal with, especially given the fact that the Gunners were unable to offload a few of their deadwood as Wenger would have liked.

Could the 6ft 5in Llorente be the man to spearhead Arsenal’s season?

  1. U’re joking. Ivan n Wenger 2 the stupid van’s money on Llorente? It’s not gonna be; forget about winning cups, they ought 2 balance their books while keeping the deadwood.

  2. its just a normal summer at arsenal, we usually bring in a similar amount of players to that which leave. so far from the first team squad last season we have lost vela, benayoun and now seemingly rvp. whilst we have brought in podolski, giroud and cazorla. for me that makes the first team squad stronger.

in addition to that we have sold/released 11 other players that were not in the first team squad, almunia, hoyte, murphy, ozyakup, botelho, mcdermott, brislen-hall, campbell, monakana, glasgow, bunjaku. whilst bringing in 12 youngsters to replace them.

Therefore, i now only expect to see more arrivals, if the likes of squillaci, park, chamakh, bendtner, arshavin, eastmond, lansbury are allowed to leave.

  3. I think its a good idea to replace Van with a quality player like loriente. He is the only one can full up the gap for the moment,mr wenger please do not keep van transfer’s money in the club account just spend it to get in Loriente we need quality players to win trophies at least this year

  4. Loriente? How is it that wenger speaks in plain terms and we still act like we don’t hear him? Start paying attention guys. RVP’s replacement/s have been bought already. We only did it in reverse this time by buying before we sold. Giroud and Poldi are his replacements! Two for the price of one I must say. So where is this Loriente story coming from? You think we will pay 28 mil pounds for a guy to sit on the bench, a guy who is just like Giroud? Get real. We are done shopping strikers. If there will be more purchases, it will be a defensive midfielder to replace song when he inevitably leaves for Barca.

  5. Podolski is a good as rvp on his day why is everyone moaning again. All we need is a DM for the stoke like games and were are way stronger without rvp. All we need is ten goals each from the strikers and rvp is forgotten. Who wants player who don’t wana be at our arsenal. Gervinho will step up this year. You may laugh but watch this space. Bould will sort the defence out.

    Shezza
    Sagna Kosh Verm Gibbs
    Song
    Carzola Wilshire
    Walcott. Podolski Gervinho

  6. d fact still remains dat all d sold out arsenal stars knws much more d internal problems of d club than we fans or wat n why do u tink they sell a top player evri seasn.we spent $36 so far and collctd $24.So frm this, our useless board(arsenal) r stil goin to sell Alex 2 bal their book of mny spent.

  7. if RVP…wenger should use the sale to bring one world class defender and one defensive midfielder,E28m is too much for Loriente

  8. I don’t think we necessarily need another striker, especially one like Llorente, because he offers the same qualities as Giroud. We signed Giroud to eventually be our man, and unfortunately he’ll be thrust into the role sooner, rather than later.

HOWEVER, I do think we should use some of the RVP funds (in addition to the ones we get after we clear out guys like Bendtner and Park) for a big signing. Whether that be for a striker who complements Giroud like Jovetic, a defensive midfielder like M’Vila, a defensive back who can cover 2 or 3 positions or some combination of all the above. This signing would signal to the other teams in the PL a serious statement of intent. Arsenal’s not a team that just develops stars to be sold…we’re here to compete now too. The biggest loss of RVP, to me anyway, isn’t that he’s gone; I’ve come to accept that for a while now. It’s the fact that he could have represented a symbol that we don’t just sell all our good players and would have changed the perception we’ve been given as a club that sells their stars for profit.

Whatever happens next, we need to win silverware. And win soon to prove to the football world that we’re still a tier 1 club.

  9. To me apart from Llorente, Wenger should replace van persie with his fellow dutchman Jan Klaas Huntellar. The guy has a release clause of £17mil and finished as a top scorer in bundesliga with 29 goals. This deal appears gud as Wenger could still save some cash generated from van persie sale. The only way he can appease arsenal fans from the loss of van persie is by replacing him with another quality.

  10. Why is Mr.Arsene Wenger delaying in signing a player?if he really wants us to end our trophy drought,he should just sign llorente and M’vila before the transfer window closes.because believe мє we need M’vila in our squad and llorente to partner Giroud for us to get a good attacking force.and if Theo Walcott is giving us problems on his contract talks,it means we need to do something very fast before the transfer window closes.
