I am not sure how well the young Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin will take the Arsenal transfer rumours linking Arsene Wenger with the potential signing of Mehmet Topal, because the Turkish international would be in direct competition with the Frenchman for his place in the Arsenal starting line up.

We do not know for sure whether it is the Gunners that have made an offer to Fenerbahce for the 29-year old, but a Metro report has revealed that the bid of around £5 million has come from a club based in London and Arsenal are said to be the favourites.

The report claims that our Premier League rivals Chelsea and Tottenham are also interested in this midfield warrior but if it really is Arsenal that have made an offer, then you would have to assume it to signal the end of the line for Mathieu Flamini in his second spell as a Gunner.

  1. Topal isn’t good enough for Arsenal. Coq can’t play every game and requires the same level of competition as we have in other areas. We have high quality attacking midfielders, wingers, full backs, and goalkeepers fighting for their place. So we need more depth at DM and CF(or on the wing if Walcott really is converted). Schneiderlin/Krychowiak brought in to fight Coquelin for his role, and Lacazette/Higuain/Muller to challenge Giroud. Otherwise we’ll not last a season long title challenge.
