You have to admire the self confidence of the young France international striker I suppose, as even though he has just been released by Arsenal to go to Holland and play on loan for Ajax, Yaya Sanogo has compared himself to the former Ajax star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

To be fair to Sanogo, he is only just 22-years old and has plenty of time to hone his game and start scoring the goals that would make the comparison a little less unlikely. He has the stature for it as well, being just an inch shorter than the Swedish international but he could do with bulking up a bit and getting a few tattoos while he is at it.

Anyway, as revealed in a Metro report, the young Gunner has been loaned to Ajax where Arsene Wenger is hoping that he can benefit from the football acumen of two former Arsenal stars, Dennis Bergkamp and Marc Overmars. Sanogo is certainly backing himself and is using some former Ajax greats to motivate himself.

He said, “My reference [for the move] is Zlatan and Kanu – legends who played for Ajax. The manager from Amsterdam (Frank De Boer) called me last week and said, “I want you to play for us, for Ajax.”

“I am very happy because I didn’t think a big club like Ajax wanted me so I have to work hard to play. I hope to score a lot of goals.”

Arsene Wenger has also shown confidence in the tall young forward, starting him in some big games against the likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool and he has performed well without banging in the goals. Add that, and could Sanogo really be like a new Zlatan for Arsenal?
