Arsenal Transfer Rumours – Kondogbia and Griezmann

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly set to reignite his interest in Monaco’s central midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia. Wenger was interested in his compatriot last summer but couldn’t compete with the financial might of AS Monaco as Kondogbia joined them instead. Despite playing 30 games this season, he has found the back of the net only once and has failed to recapture the form that made Monaco shell out about 17 million pounds for his services.

Kondogbia is a 21-year old defensive midfielder from Macon in France. He can also play at centre back or left back. The former Sevilla player is also a target for Arsenal’s great rivals, Tottenham Hotspurs, and Wenger would like to move quickly before Spurs resolve their managerial situation. It is believed that Daniel Levy doesn’t want to press on with summer buys until a new manager has been appointed.

Meanwhile, another Frenchman that has been linked with the Gunners in recent weeks has spoken out about his future. Antoine Griezmann is contracted to Real Sociedad until 2016 but is open to a move.

‘I have no idea (what will happen). As I said, I want to finish my season with Real.

‘But then when a big club is interested in you, it’s always fun. We’ll see what happens…’

The North London club are not the only ones interested in the flying winger as Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United have all shown interest. The 23-year old is believed to have a 30-million euro buyout clause and was a transfer interest of both Manchester United and Arsenal before he signed his current contract.

Griezmann can play on both wings and is known for his sublime ball control, dribbling ability and devastating pace. He was part of the France team that won the UEFA Under-19 championship in 2010. He was called up to the France national team on February 27, 2014 by Didier Deschamps and made his debut on 5th March against The Netherlands at the Stade de France. He is yet to score for his country but has 52 goals in 198 career appearances for Real Sociedead.

If Wenger could get these two quickly, we will then only need a top class striker and a backup keeper to fill the gaps in the squad….
