As the media hype begins to build up, Arsenal now have just a week and a half remaining in the transfer window and as of yet there has still been no further additions to the squad. It has left us very bare in terms of squad depth and with other teams improving, Spurs particularly who are supposedly now signing Willian, its worrying times for the Gunners.

But I suppose no additions doesn’t particularly mean no developments or advancements in transfer negotiations and if different reports are believed to be true from the likes of BBC, Sky Sports, ESPN and of course the usual newspapers, then Arsene Wenger has finally pulled his finger out! The other day it was reported on Sky Sports News and BBC Sport that Arsenal were in talks with two clubs regarding players however the players’ identities were not made public knowledge.

It seems that one of those players was Newcastle and French international Yohan Cabaye, who if I’m honest, I’m not overly excited about. I cannot see what he would bring to the Arsenal team apart from being just a player to field if we became desperate. I’m not saying he is a bad player, I just struggle to see his purpose in matches and so I don’t understand what kind of job he could do at Arsenal apart from just be another man out on the pitch or another option on the bench.

Then the other reports suggested that we were also looking at players from England, France and Italy, whilst we are also supposedly in for a Spanish surprise, with Valencia goalkeeper Vicente Guaita. He may not be very well known however he can be an absolute monster in goal and if we can get him for a relatively cheap price then he would be a fantastic coup for the Gunners. Other reports link us with Iker Casillas but come on guys, let’s be serious!

Then from France, I’m guessing the link is possibly still on Yohan Gourcuff, the midfielder from Lyon; however it could also be Mamadou Sakho, who reportedly wants to leave PSG and so would be available for a relatively cheap price. He’d be a nice option in defence and a powerful option should we sign him.

Then lastly we come to Italy and I suppose this coup be the best of the best in terms of what we are linked with here. Juventus’ Paul Pogba is reportedly subject of a £20m bid from Arsenal and so it will be interesting to see if this story develops. He would be a fantastic buy and his versatility would certainly help us out in times like these. Or it could even be Erik Lamela from Roma, who the spuds have been linked with.
