Am I missing something here? It seems that Arsenal have not actually sealed the deal with the Ivorian full back Serge Aurier, who was thought to be on his way to the Emirates from his French Ligu1 club Toulouse. The media are reporting that Arsene Wenger is now interested in the France international Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle, but why?

Aurier was awesome for Ivory Coast in Brazil and I thought his World Cup performances would only have strengthened Arsenal’s resolve to sign the powerful and pacy 21-year old. But apparently not, because the Daily Mail have reported that Arsene Wenger was keen on getting the Everton defender Seamus Coleman in, until he snubbed us and signed a new long term deal with the Toffees. So, according to The Mirror, the Frenchman has turned his attention to his countryman Debuchy.

I find this incredible, because Aurier has practically begged Arsenal to sign him and he would only cost around £8 million according to media reports. I am not saying that Debuchy would not be a decent replacement for Bacary Sagna, as he is pushing the outgoing Arsenal man hard for his starting place in the France national team, but why ignore Aurier?

There are unconfirmed rumours that the problem may be the payment up front to Toulouse. If this is the case, it would be the most stupid transfer move by Arsenal since signing Kim Kallstrom with a back problem that would rule him out for almost exactly the amount of time he was needed to cover for Aaron Ramsey. Genius from the Gunners!! And we wonder why rival fans take the mickey….

  1. It’s called a bigger salary offer from PSG. Give your club some credit you muppet.

  2. Who cares whether rival fans take the mickey. Only united fans have won more trophies in the last 17 years under wenger.

  3. Debuchy is the right age for what we need. Wenger seems to believe in Jenko long-term and I think he’s right to do so. We need a man we know that we can rely on when we can’t risk Jenk’s inexperience, not another young guy learning his trade. Serge Aurier looked good in 3 games at a tournament against international opponents but that doesn’t mean he’ll provide consistency over a full premier league season against the might of a crystal palace, whereas Debuchy is a known quantity to us and yet not so huge a talent as to disturb Jenk’s development or complain about him getting his chances. Don’t get me wrong, Newcastle would be idiots to sell him to us but it’s far from a bad call from us. By the way, there was NEVER any chance of us getting Coleman for the amount we’d be willing to pay for a RB who isn’t Cafu reborn.

  4. The problem with whoever wrote this is he appears to believe all the nonsense written and spoken by the media and then gets upset when these probably non existent deals don’t happen. Just wait and see what transpires, Arsene knows best, as he has so often proved in the past.

  5. If it is true that Arsenal is not signing Serge Aurier to replace Sagna as right back I think Arsene Wenger must be mad. I have seen him perform in club and country level and he will be the most correct choice.

ALL ARSENAL FANS WILL BE VERY DISSAPOINTED IF ARSENE WENGER DOESN’T SNAP HIM UP BECAUSE ALL THE OTHER CLUBS ARE TARGETING ON HIM.

  6. Honestly stop reading everything that the media writes…. We’ve been linked with over 50 players so far! Come the start of August start worrying, not now
