The need for Arsene Wenger to get Alexis Sanchez tied down to the club with a new Arsenal contract was brought into sharp focus again today as the Chilean drove the Gunners on to win a vital game that could well have gone the other way.
The striker was back in the centre forward position against Bournemouth with Giroud back on the bench and even though the French forward did well and made a difference after coming on, especially with his great work to set up Sanchez for the late third which made the game safe, the manager’s decision was justified by a brilliant game from Alexis.
He also opened the scoring and although people will point to the poor back pass which he pounced on, the way the former Barcelona star works and harries and never gives up creates these sort of situations. Alexis was not the only Arsenal player to impress but he was the one who made the difference yet again.
After a poor run and in a tough game like this certainly was, the win was vital and massive and may well have got our Premier League title challenge going again. Do Arsenal have to now do whatever it takes to get him to sign a new deal?
