According to a report from Goal this morning, Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow ahead of the club’s vital Premier League clash against Liverpool as midfielder Jack Wilshere is set to miss the game due to injury. The Englishman seems to have had a minor re-occurence of his ankle problem and Wenger seems to be in no mood to risk him in the clash against the Reds.

The Englishman has reportedly had regular issues with his right ankle over the past few weeks after being on the receiving end of a painful kick during Arsenal’s Champions League defeat against Bundesliga side Borrusia Dortmund. Since then, Wilshere has gone down several times clutching his ankle and the issue is proving to be more difficult to overcome than initially expected.

The news of Wilshere’s injury comes at a very vital stage of the season where his Arsenal side are set to play Liverpool, Borrusia Dortmund and reigning Premier League champions Manchester United all in the space of one week. The news is especially hard to take for Arsenal fans considering the fact that Mathieu Flamini is also on the sidelines due to a groin injury along with the club’s resident sicknote Abou Diaby.

Thankfully, the central midfield area of the pitch is where Arsenal have genuine depth and should be able to manage a good run of games without much rotation. Wenger cannot afford to risk another long-term injury for Wilshere and seems to have made the right call. Frankly speaking, even without Jack, I believe Arsenal have enough substance in the team to see off the visiting Liverpool side. We might need a big performance from Aaron Ramsey though!
