Bullish Arsenal boss says Bring On Leicester

At one point of the Arsenal match away to Bournemouth yesterday the TV cameras cut away to Arsene Wenger on the Arsenal bench and despite being two goals to the good, the Frenchman looked incredibly nervous as he fiddled with an elastic band around his fingers.

That was because it was such a vital game and potentially a pivotal one in the race for the Premier League title. The manager and the players were caught a little bit between the two stools of keeping up our attack and possibly recording a morale boosting heavy win with lots of goals and just making sure that we took the points.

That is why the prof changed his mind about bringing on Theo Walcott even though the game seemed set up for him and turned to the extra defensive capabilities of Coquelin and Gibbs instead. The Gunners got the job done and I think it was more relief than joy for Wenger.

Now we are back to winning ways, though, he is feeling more confident and is looking ahead to Leicester next weekend with renewed belief and optimism, as reported by the Daily Mail. The Frenchman feels that after coming through this crunch clash his team will keep their nerve and carry on, while the pressure will not be on the new favourites and league leaders Leicester, a side we have already put five past this season.

Wenger said, “We have been in the title race and we are still in it. I agree Leicester now is the favourite. In one week they have beaten Liverpool and Manchester City.

“That makes our game on Sunday a very big one. We just have to control our performances and show that we believe, and that we have the level to do it. There’s still a long way to go.

“We have a big game at home and we have enough quality and nerve to deal with that.’

“It was an important result for two reasons. One, we haven’t won for a while. When you play at the top, four games without a win is a long period and confidence drops. And Leicester is running away. We had to win. We won.”

We need to win again when Leicester come to London at the weekend. Will Arsenal do it again?
