The Arsenal striker Joel Campbell has announced via his official Twitter account that he has been granted a work permit to play in England next term, suggesting that his future could remain in England after all. There had been some previous speculation that the Costa Rican international would be permanently leaving the Gunners, after still not securing a work permit to play in England two years after we signed him. However now Campbell looks likely to remain in England, although it looks like he could go on loan again. A reported target for Crystal Palace, Campbell will have to weigh up his options for a loan deal this summer, because there is littl chance that he will remain at Arsenal for the upcoming 2013/14 season.

Campbell is a very talented player and has been dubbed the next ‘Thierry Henry’ by many, which may be a bit of an overstatement, however to me I certainly see elements of Henry. Just like Walcott and even Akpom in recent times, I’ve noticed the similarities they all hold when building up to striking the ball for a shot. The power, the positioning, the accuracy and the technique all display elements of how great Campbell could be in the near future.

He doesn’t have the greatest record for a striker at the moment, and only has 5 goals in two years; however the highly rated youngster has proved his worth on several occasions, most notably in an international game against World and European champions Spain. As mentioned before, I don’t think Campbell will remain with the Arsenal squad this year and a loan deal looks most likely, however I desperately hope that it’s with a lower Premier League side that can offer him regular player time.

At the age of 21 he is quickly reaching the crucial age where Wenger needs to make a decision on the players future, as well as recognising the player’s potential ability and so for that reason it’s vital that he not only goes out on loan to benefit Arsenal, but also to gain valuable experience for the youngster in hope of securing a place with Arsenal in the future.
