It has been a great weekend for Arsenal, and if Arsene Wenger and his transfer team can pull off a couple of clever signings today, I think that Arsenal could be back in the business of winning trophies.

All the talk ahead of the game between the Gunners and Tottenham yesterday was the now ritual talk about power shifting in North London, especially because of the vastly different transfer business the two clubs have had. Now I know it was only a 1-0 win, but they had Lloris to thank for that. Their keeper was on top form and Arsenal were a bit unlucky not to score more.

We controlled the midfield and defended really well, while creating good chances at the other end. Remember, also, that this was an Arsenal squad ravaged by illness and injury. Vermaelen is close to his comeback, as are Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arteta. Podolski will be a bit longer but not too long, while the unlucky Diaby could be playing again in the new year.

So with a few key signings to add depth and quality, and with the contribution of young players like Gnabry, Zelalem and Ryo Miyaichi, suddenly Arsenal are looking dangerous. With the other big clubs all suffering to some extent with the changes they have made, Arsenal’s solid core has got a great chance of winning something this season, but we really do need those signings to give us that extra boost.
