Arsenal fans were left more than happy on transfer deadline day this summer, with the singing of Mesut Ozil being officially confirmed in the final hours of the night, but one possible name we could have seen at the Emirates now is Julian Draxler. But recently it’s been reported that these following quotes state why he rejected the chance to move on deadline day!

Draxler stated: “The World Cup is at the end of the season and you always need time to get used to a new team. On top of that, I’m convinced I’m at the right club with Schalke. We haven’t had a great start to the campaign and I was a bit disappointed after the first few games. But I think we took another important step forward after signing Kevin-Prince Boateng. We’ve got a strong team. I want to be in the first team with my club and take on more responsibility. That’s the only way I can play myself into contention for the national team.”

Julian Draxler has been associated as an Arsenal transfer target for one or two years now after his talent became very clear to many and so ultimately Arsene Wenger and Arsenal began to track the youngster on his progress. Draxler has quickly turned into one of the best young players in the world at this moment in time and in terms of previous player’s progress stages at his age, some people would go as far to suggest that he is better than Ronaldo was at the same age.

Although I’m not too sure if I can agree with that statement, the young German international midfielder is still exceptionally talented and that’s the reason behind his £40 million valuation. Draxler currently plays for German side Schalke and was linked with Arsenal heavily in the last few days of the window, with speculation arising Arsenal were set to bid around £40 million on the young German international midfielder. The reports were wrong; they just caught the wrong name choosing Draxler over Ozil.

However it was the other way round in reality with Arsenal turning towards Ozil rather than his German companion and overall I think the majority of fans would be more than happy with that. I certainly wouldn’t have paid £40m for Draxler no matter the potential because there is a massive risk in his potential, whereas, although Ozil is still young at 24, he also has experience in the footballing world’s biggest level as well as for one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Overall the way to look at it is that although we didn’t sign the talented Draxler, we secured Ozil instead and so ultimately I think nine out of ten Arsenal fans would be more than happy with that!
