Did Wenger really say Arsenal don’t need Morata as we have SANOGO?

I just had to check to see that I had not misheard the words of Arsene Wenger as gave the pre-match press conference ahead of the Arsenal away trip to face the Premier League’s second bottom placed club Swansea City. You can listen to the whole thing on the Arsenal website and he talks about many issues including the injury situation, but it was the comments about the possible striker transfer targets for Arsenal that made me scratch my head.

A lot of Arsenal fans will be hoping that the boss does spend some money in the current January transfer window, although another forward may not be the first priority, but any Gooner who is hoping for more firepower looks like being disappointed.

There have been a few Arsenal transfer rumours linking us with various strikers and the press asked the Frenchman specifically about a few of them. On the rumours suggesting we had a massive bid turned down by the Italian Serie A club Torino Wenger was scathing as he called it fake news.

Wenger was then asked about the Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata and he replied, “We have Welbeck coming back, we have Giroud, we have Alexis, we have Walcott, we have Lucas, who is doing very well now as well. We have Chuba Akpom coming back as well, we have Sanogo – we have a high number of strikers.”

Do we really still have Yaya Sanogo? And if so why? And what on earth has the lanky young Frenchman been doing all season? Is Having Sanogo really any reason for Arsenal to not be interested in a striker proven at the highest level?
