All summer I have been puzzled at the talk of Arsenal wanting to sign a new keeper as I believed that Szczesny was good enough to be in the team for years to come. The match against Aston Villa showed me just how wrong I was. It wasn’t all his fault that we suffered a humiliating defeat, you have to remember that most of our defence was taken out like that were playing American football and that Laurent Koscielny got yet another red card in an Arsenal shirt.

However I am sure that people saw that moment where our keeper failed to clear the ball properly and got caught miles away from his goal when the opposition regained possession of the ball. What on Earth was he doing in that moment? He ran back and dived spectacularly but unnecessarily to stop the ball from going anywhere near the net. A keeper who really knows what he’s doing wouldn’t have got caught up in a situation like that. It set off alarm bells in my head, and Wenger could not have been too impressed.

We have been linked with QPR’s Julio Cesar for so long now and he has turned down moves to Italy so what are we waiting for? We can sign him for a very small amount of money and solve something that has just become a problem in our team. QPR need to get rid of him because he will cripple the wage bill and we need him. One problem is though that he has said he would be happy to stay at QPR now after searching for a new club unsuccessfully all summer.

It would be pretty funny to see a treble winning goalkeeper of the year in the Championship just three years after he achieved those feats but we would be missing a great opportunity. Can we really afford to place our fate in the hands of Szczesny?

  1. All great teams are built from the back. We need the best goalkeeper we can get. Begovic for me but cesar is a good back up. I would get another right back to rival sagna allowing jenko to go on loan. We need anotber 2 centre backs as vermaelen is injured so I would go for rami and sakho. Vermaelen can cover a multitude of positions when he is fit.
Then its the holding midfield we need 2 players here as arteta and diaby are injured. So I would go for lars and sven bender if not kodogbia. Attacking midfield needs 7 players walcott chamberlain wilshire rosicky cazorla and podolski are 6 of them however chamberlain is now out so we need 2 here as well. Finally we need the best damn striker we can afford. So there u have it one or two is not enough.

  2. Wenger keeps talking about signing quality and not quantity, yet he ends up with deadwoods. I would love to see Begovic/Ceaser, Fellaini/Bender, Rami/Sakho/Williams, Michu/Sanchez/Suarez as Arsenal’s panic buys as the transfer window comes to a close.

  3. As Arsene says he is looking for ‘super quality’

why would anyone think an Italian triple winning world cup winning Brazilian international could be such quality when there are players in the French second division available

  4. Arsenal are a lost cause. Lost the day David Dein was pushed out the door. There is no hope, unless Kreonke sells to Usmanov, Dein is brought back to run the club and Wenger and the board all leave.
