With the January transfer window still over two weeks away from opening, there will be lots of Arsenal transfer rumours doing the rounds of the papers and football websites, especially after Arsene Wenger stated after the victory over Newcastle United yesterday that he was going to strengthen the Arsenal squad.

The Frenchman was referring specifically to the defensive side of things, with a quality centre back surely the priority. But the central midfield players in front of the back four can make all the difference to a team’s defensive solidity and Wenger may be on the verge of sealing the transfer of the player he wants to provide more strength in this area.

According to a Metro report, the transfer, or at least the terms of it, could even be completed today. The player is Romulo, a Brazil international currently playing for Spartak Moscow in Russia and the report claims that talks between the two clubs and the player are at a very advanced stage.

Would he be a good buy for the Gunners?
