France’s top goalkeeper makes himself available – Should Arsenal make a bid?

8

Arsenal might revive their interest in Lyon and France’s national team goalkeeper Hugo Lloris now that the 25-year-old has admitted his interest in making a switch from the French Ligue 1.

The Gunners are in big need of a goalkeeper because of Fabianski’s leave, and Wenger is highly likely to bring a top notch goalkeeper who can either take Szczesny’s place or make him fight for his first team spot as hard as he can.

Lyon’s chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has admitted speaking to Lloris and deciding to let him go if an offer from a big European club came along, and as things stand at the moment this seems like a match made in heaven.

“I met him before he left for the French team. He told me if there is a proposition from a great European club, he could be tempted to go,” Aulas explained.

“However, I don’t think there is such an offer so far. The big European sides all have quality keepers.”

Arsene Wenger was interested in Lloris a few years back before Szczesny made the breakthrough into the first XI at Arsenal, and given the manager’s affinity to top French players, the switch is highly likely to occur.

Should Wenger go for him?

  1. yes wenger should go him, he is top notch and provide the much need experience and competion to our squad.

  2. Why would we bring in a world class goalkeeper when we already have one, it is a huge waste of talent

  3. Szczesny made poor costly mistakes during the season that just finished.

A world class goalkeeper like Lloris would sharpen Szczesny and make him more focused if his position is under threat.

… Just like the effect Oxlade-Chamberlain has had on Walcott.

It also provides a great back up goalkeeper. Szczesny has not managed an injury free season yet.

  4. Justifying a second quality keeper is a hard question to answer. Keepers don`t get injured all that often yet you need quality back up on the bench. Maybe, just maybe, keepers should be excluded from the transfer windows so that ,in a real emergency with a lengthy lay off, managers can go into the market place just once during the season? A mid season loan arrangement might be suitable.

    1. Lol. Good idea. Bottom line is that we do not need Lloris and it won’t happen. Let’s not waste our time.

  5. Loris is worth about 20m ‎A̶̲̥̅̊₪d̶̲̥̅̊ arsenal will never pay such an amount for a goalie(selfish club) so let’s forget about it…I don’t mind arsenal bring akinfeev or out of favoured adder or even enyeama will do

  6. We should always go for players if; a) they’re affordable and b) they’ll significantly improve our squad. Based on that, if he’s going at a decent price we should buy Lloris as, in my opinion, he’s better than Szczesny.
