Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas snubbed the possibility of letting club playmaker Yoann Gourcuff go this January to another club amid rumours which are linking the Frenchman with a possible move to Premiership giants Arsenal.

Arsenal’s manager Wenger is a well known admirer of the midfielder and also wanted to transfer him in the summer before he found out that the midfielder was suffering from a knee injury.

“Yoann Gourcuff will not leave the team,” Aulas said. “The newspapers are getting it wrong.

“We need him and to add for the Champions League. And if he stays he can use his performances to get himself in the France team for the Euros.”

Wenger also declared that he’s not interested in Gourcuff, but this wouldn’t be the first time when the French manager would say something like that just to dissimulate. With Frimpong now gone on loan and Wilshere just coming back from injury, Arsenal could do with another midfielder but Arsenal doesn’t seem too eager on changing something in that regard with no clear proof of a potential move.

Will Arsenal indeed make a move for one of the many midfielders who have been linked with the club?
