Give the Kid a chance say Campbell’s Arsenal team mates

With just over four weeks to be before Arsenal face man City in the Community Shield, a week bfore the real action of the Premier League kicks off, some of the Arsenal squad are already back in pre-season training, while the Gunners who were involved in the World Cup finals will start to filter back soon.

One of those, Joel Campbell, still has no real idea of whether he will be playing his club football in the new Arsenal shirts next season, even though he had a very impressive tournament in Brazil for Costa Rica. Two of his new team mates, Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta, certainly think that the 22-year old has done enough to make the squad at the very least.

Cazorla knows Campbell from their time in La Liga, when the young Gunner was on loan with Real Betis and the Spaniard thinks that the young striker has really developed his game well enough to be given a chance by Arsene Wenger, according to a Daily Mail report.

Santi said, “I think he has reached a level where he is ready to play for Arsenal.

“I’ve known Campbell for many years now because of his time in Spain. I know him a lot and I think every day he is developing and becoming a better player.”

Arteta has never played in the same league as Campbell, but obviously follows the football in his home country and seems to have kept an eye on Campbell as well, especially at the World Cup. The midfielder, in a Daily Mail report, heaps more praise on the promising player, although he stops short, just, of telling Wenger that he must give Campbell a chance at his parent club.

Arteta said, “I think he has been superb – for his club and for the national team at the World Cup. I was very impressed with him and I think he’s got at least the level to play for this club.

“That’s not for me to say [whether Campbell should play for us this season] but what I can tell you is that I think he’s got the capacity and the ability to play for Arsenal, that’s for sure.”

It is good for Campbell that he has got the backing of these two key figures in the Arsenal dressing room, but we know who he really needs to impress. Hopefully he will show Wenger the same drive, skill and lack of fear that he showed the world in Brazil.

  1. This is Campbell`s chance to join the ranks of `world class`. I sincerely hope Wenger gives him that chance.

  2. Joel Campbell is already a world cup player from Costa Rica and nobody can deny the fact he can fit into Arsenal’s tactical play within a shot span of time. With a few matches under Arsenal, he can adopt well much better than some of our younger players. Gnabry is also another excellent player that is outstanding with his hard tackling and accurate passing. Both should be given more matches to play as I see it from the side line.
