Summer transfer target Victor Wanyama is reportedly gathering close interest from Premier League clubs Southampton and Cardiff City, supporting claims that Arsenal are set to lose out on the highly rated defensive midfielder.

Firstly I’m going to be honest and state I don’t think Wanyama is right for Arsenal. Not to mention the price tag of the ‘average’ player in my opinion, but the fact that the two other interested clubs in England are Cardiff and Southampton, isn’t exactly promising is it. If Wanyama is so great, why aren’t other big clubs looking at the Celtic man?

The 21 year old has made 61 league appearances for Celtic, scoring 10 goals since his move from Belgian side Beerschot two years ago. Liked for his pace, strength and powerhouse work rate, his passing and defensive capabilities also don’t go unnoticed, but I just personally feel Arsenal can find much better for the quoted value of £10 million.

Arsenal and Welsh International star Aaron Ramsey has already stated his delight in possibly seeing Wanyama coming to the Emirates next season, but many fans have different opinion. I know Fellaini is an extra £12-13 million on top of Wanyama’s £10 million price tag, but he is much better and totally worth it. If Arsenal are to be successful and at least begin to challenge for titles again, then it’s highly necessary we start to pull our finger out during the transfer period and make us a force to be reckoned with once again.

I must once again reiterate that the main clubs also interested in this supposed star are Southampton and Cardiff suggests to me that perhaps this guy isn’t all that everyone claims him to be. Should Arsenal be looking elsewhere? I certainly think so. A defensive midfielder should be one of our priorities this summer and I think the real answer is right in front of us in Maroune Fellaini. Could Wenger pull off a wonder transfer or we will see Le Prof remained satisfied with the cheaper option once again.

  1. They are both good additions, wanyama is good. Don’t be fooled, he’ll become 30M after 1 season in England.

    1. I prefer Fellaini now but there is no doubt Wanyama will be a major player – I deally I would have liked Wenger to buy him and loan him out to Everton as a Fellaini cover.

We will pay big £££ for him in a couple of years…

  2. Unlikely. He’ll take at least a season to settle into the much more demanding EPL. I also prefer Fellaini.

  3. “Welsh international star”?? Have you watched Ramsey before??, he’s a weak, slow highly active yet highly ineffective CM with no creativity, defensively capabilities or passing skills. He’s worse than diaby and our playing him is part of the reason we never win!! Sell this under skilled child now

  4. Just the fact that you belive that the two are competing for the same position in a Arsenal midfield, makes me question your fotball knowledge. Victor, a defensive powerhouse with great ballwinning abillitys. Fellaini are a more offensive minded player, a sort we doesn’t need for the moment. And to compare players skills by the size of club that want’s are just childish and ignorant.

  5. Victor is tough, rugged, hard tackling ball winner who can prop our soft under belly which arsenal lacks at present.as good fellaini is he is offensive minded, Victor will fill the role left vacant by Alex song.

  6. This past season Fellaini was used offensively, but that was out of necessity for Everton. Before that he was always a DM, and he has publicly stated he prefers playing as a DM. Recently Ray Parlour has said that Fellaini could become a Vieira type player for us. So actually, whoever wrote this article is correct.

  7. Also Wanyama’s price of £10m is roughly the same as that for Illarramendi, Spain’s U21 star, who’s already impressed in the Spanish league, he looks like a much better option than Wanyama. But it seems several big clubs are after him, and that he has one of those ridiculous buy-out clauses or something.
