Lacazette or Lukaku to lead the line for Arsenal next season? (Plus videos)

arsene-wenger-thearsenalblogWith the European Championship drawing to a close, it is now time for us all to refocus our attention on our beloved Arsenal. Can we win the Premier League this season? We certainly stand a good chance… IF Arsene Wenger gets his finger out and signs a striker this summer. Last summer, Wenger’s incompetence and failure to act in the transfer market cost us a realistic shot at the title – even if we did manage to pip Tottenham Hotspur to second place.

And with Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho already making moves in the transfer window, we HAVE to respond. Arsenal simply cannot afford to sit back and watch the two Manchester clubs invest heavily this summer; we need a clear and coherent plan of action. Wenger should already have a few targets in mind and the Frenchman should act quickly to ensure that he can bring them into the club before the new season.

According to reports, one of Wenger’s potential targets is the talented Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette. On paper, he certainly fits the bill. Lacazette finished second behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the Ligue 1 goalscoring charts last season and in doing so, became the first Frenchman to score 20+ goals in back-to-back seasons since before the millennium – an impressive statistic in its own right. Just check out some of his incredible goals in the video below.

Lacazette has the skillset to suggest that he could be a huge success at the Emirates Stadium and most fans would be satisfied if we were to acquire the Lyon star. Admittedly, he isn’t the world class name that we are hoping for but he has the talent to mature into one of the very best strikers in the world. And Lacazette’s arrival could sway punters considering a wager on Paddy Power’s Arsenal betting markets for the Premier League title…

However, Lyon are desperate to keep Lacazette in France and they will be desperate to block any potential move away from the club. Therefore, the more realistic option might be Everton’s Romelu Lukaku. The Belgium international expressed his desire to leave Goodison Park at the end of last season and Arsenal might be able to lure him to London; especially with the added bonus and attraction of Champions League football. From the video below, he’s certainly capable of holding his own in Arsenal’s star-studded XI.

Whether it’s Lukaku or Lacazette, Arsenal have to act. We’ve accepted mediocrity for so long, it is time for the Gunners to grasp the bull by the horns and take their rightful place at the top of the Premier League. Wenger’s stubbornness and arrogance has hindered us in the past but we won’t stand for it anymore. A Lukaku or a Lacazette will give us a great chance of winning our first title since 2004… and it will keep Wenger in a job.
