This latest Arsenal transfer rumour may well make the long suffering Arsenal fans feel angry, frustrated or exasperated but I very much doubt that it will surprise many of us to hear that Arsene Wenger and his scouting and transfer team are looking at a not very well known youngster who is set to be available on a free transfer in the summer.

The player in question is the 20-year old Rolando Aarons, a promising midfielder who is currently on the books of Premier League Newcastle United. According to a Metro report he has not yet agreed a new contract with his current club and the report says that Aarons is being tipped to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Aarons is an attack mined player with good pace and technical ability and with Arsenal transfer rumours talking about the possible exit of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain I guess he would be a direct replacement for the Ox. But he has also had problems with injury and is not yet a regular for the struggling Magpies so I am not exactly buzzing about him coming to Arsenal.

And on the same day that The Sun is reporting that the Gunners have cash reserves of more than £150 million in the bank, this underwhelming story of the free transfer of Aarons will have most Gooners, like me, shaking their heads. Not in disbelief but in disappointment and despair.

Just what will it take for Wenger and Arsenal to realise that we cannot compete with the top clubs around Europe if we never spend big money in the transfer market?

  1. Wenger, the board and silent Stan are simply taking the piss. They show total and utter disregard for loyal fans by taking our money and not investing any of it in players. It’s as obvious as a London bus on the pitch of the Emirates that we simply cannot challenge and continue to compete without investment. We also have players for whom there Is simply no excuses anymore. I speak of the likes of walcott,ox, Ramsey and possibly young Jack. Either won’t or can’t perform or injured we can not afford to carry them anymore. Sell them and replace them with the quality. Arteta and flamini have to go too as does our little Mozart. I’d probably let Gibbs on too and find a quality replacement.

  2. Arsenal is not a mediocre club. I don’t just know why wenger and the board of directors are too selfish at the expence of the die hard fans that are proud to support the club. Think of a lineup as good as this => Higuain, Alexis, Ozil, Yarmolenko, Brozovic/Whilshere, Cazorla, monreal, koscielny, gabriel, aurier/bellerin, cech.

Subs: Ramsey, Coquelin, elneny, campbell, chambers, Ox-chamberlin, iwobi, per.

    Formation: 4321/ 4231

There’s no team in the world (barca and bayern inclusive) that won’t get chills down their spine. They are are just all about the profit and average performances. They don’t care about winning as the fans do.
