The first official confirmation that Arsenal are indeed well on their way to bring Montpellier’s star striker Olivier Giroud to the Emirates Stadium has been confirmed by the French club’s officials.

As we are already used to, Wenger doesn’t shed much light on the plans he has regarding transfers, but this time the fans caught a break as Montpellier’s deputy president Laurent Nicollin said in Midi Libre that the negotiations are moving on smoothly, hinting that the French striker will be seen in London playing in the Premier League starting next summer.

“Discussions are happening and going well, as part of the (release) clause set. Things are moving serenely,”

It is said that Arsene Wenger doesn’t want to see Giroud replace captain Robin Van persie, but add to the quality of the squad and replace the likely departures of Chamakh and Park.

The striker is now in Ukraine with his national team, as France are looking to secure their spot in the knockout stages of the tournament. The striker played his part in the qualifiers so far, but with Real Madrid’s Benzema playing on the same position as him at the national team, Giroud was only able to mark a mere number of minutes for the French against England and Ukraine.
