Arsene Wenger and his scouting department at Arsenal may well be tearing up their transfer list and starting a fresh one today. Because two of the players thought to be heading the list of potential defensive midfield signings in the January transfer market look to be out of reach after recent developments.

The Real Madrid and Germany star Sami Khedira has seemingly done a u-turn and claimed, as reported by the Daily Mail, that he and his Spanish club are happy together, suggesting that he has never wanted to leave Real Madrid in the first place.

And close on the heels of that jab to Arsenal’s transfer plans, the follow up right hander comes from the news that Juventus are set to respond to the Gunners’ interest in their central midfielder Claudio Marchisio by securing the 28-year old with a bumper new contract.

This is the first I have heard of Arsenal tracking the Italy international, but the Metro report is getting it’s information from the respected Italian daily Tuttosport and they say that the Italian champions are reacting directly because of our plans to swoop for Marchisio in the January transfer window.

So that is two targets down, who is left for Wenger to bring in to solve our defensive midfield dilemma?
