In his ninth game of the season for Arsenal, including the Community Shield, our dynamic young midfielder finally got off the mark on Saturday. And what a time to do it, as the Gunners were staring down the barrel of a disappointing home defeat in the north London derby.

And as much as the Ox was delighted to score the equalizer and get his first goal of the season, as an Arsenal.com report explains, the young England international feels that he should score more. He does have all the attributes and gets into the right areas after all.

Chamberlain said, “I’d like to [score more but] it’s easier said than done. I told my dad before the game that the law of average said I’d missed enough chances so surely it was time to score.

“I’m really happy to get off the mark but I completely agree with you – it’s something I want to improve on.

“It’s something I feel I have the potential to do better so I’ll be working on that but it’s important that I do my other role in the team too defensively and trying to create for others.

“It’s nice to get a goal today and it’s contributed to a good point but I will be trying to get more.”

I agree with him but I think he is being a bit too hard on himself as well, because last season was an injury nightmare for him and even before then he struggled to get a regular run in the team. Not that Arsene Wenger doesn’t rate him, just that the Frenchman was trying to get him to work on becoming a complete player. When he played for England he was given more freedom and that saw him get into scoring positions and hit the net more often.

With the Gunners going through a bit of a midfield injury crisis at the moment, Chamberlain should get a run of games. He has only started three of his nine games so far, so hopefully his first goal will help him to make the most of his chance and get on the score sheet more often. Do you think he could do a Ramsey this season?
